In these trying times, social distancing has ruined just about all the fun. Well, this forlorn Fiat is desperately distancing itself from the riotous mosh pit all the other cars are having behind it !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

This is a Fiat 1100D. I do not know much about them, since they were pretty rare when new, and the Tonys of the world got annoying enough that most owners ditched them before too long. The presence of whitewall tires would seem to indicate that it could not have scrapped much later than the late 60s.

The formal and understated profile view is generic enough that even today there isn’t much to look at. I do like how the C pillar is textured.

Yuuup, it’s a Fiat. Is the red molding behind it supposed to have a webbed pattern or is it just decaying?

Kinja'd!!!

This car likely sacrificed its bumper to let another live. The side marker lights were probably smashed after it entered the junkyard. With the rare windshield glass smashed, there isn’t much hope for this one.

Kinja'd!!!

This has certainly been here a long time. Long enough for the plastic taillight lenses to decay under the harsh rays of the sun, falling apart at the seams under the weight of its years.

Kinja'd!!!

The interior clearly didn’t offer much in the way of amenities. One, possibly two dials on the center stack and a center mounted clock are all you get. What are the dials next to the clock in the middle?

This Fiat has taken social distancing to the extreme, but I am actually about to venture out on a hiking excursion just to get away for a bit. How have you been, Oppo?

All OK here...been mostly staying home and not going anywhere and being lazy. Not much to do as I can’t sub teach if school is closed and nobody wants me coming to their house to repair computer stuff because of social distancing...so I look like a hobo from not shaving, lol.

Poor little FIAT....they were rare here in North America, but quite common in Europe! Actually, they were surprisingly reliable! A lot of the issues in North America were from North American mechanics not being familiar with them and not always doing the work quite right as they were more accustomed to big lazy American I6s, V6s and V8s and the like and not little ‘European jobs’....also, the rust proofing wasn’t the best as they always underestimated the salt used, etc here. :(

Jay Leno has an earlier FIAT Millecento (1100)...cool little car! Slightly different styling, but the same car underneath!

I remember you suggested that video during one of the old Carspotting in the Past posts. Such charming little cars, but almost hilariously unsuitable to American tastes at the time.

Sadly, yup. I’d have gladly bought one back then! :)

You’ll be pleased to know I am writing a massive article on the classic FIAT 500 because COVID19 social distancing and schools are closed so no sub teaching work for me, therefore massive amounts of free time and bored. :P

You can rest assured I will devour every word. I will keep a peephole out. IN the meantime, some social distancing as encouragement.

Kinja'd!!!

You have to wonder what kind of loon actually bought that Fiat new . Probably a cash strapped out of work professor. So, someone like you?
